Unleash your inner explorer, grab your shovel, and dig deep into the pages of a great book and the world around us. Throughout the summer, join us for free, exciting programs that unearth the wonders of dinosaurs, ancient history, and the stories buried right beneath our feet! There's so many fun ways to get involved: Dive into a book, handle a real fossil, explore a local historic site, or imagine life millions of years ago.

There are programs for all ages, from infants to teens. There are also activities planned for families and patrons of all ages! Get all the details on our Summer Reading 2026 web page. Be sure to look at the special July and August event calendars for all the fun programs and download our brochure for all the details about how to get involved. We're thrilled to partner with the Chatham Historical Society to bring you this summer of programs to remember!

Junior Friends

Students in grades 5 to 12 are encouraged and welcome to volunteer in Youth Services.  From preparing materials for upcoming events and planning YA programming to creating bulletin boards, displays, and holiday décor, the tween/teen volunteers, aka Jr. Friends, provide a wide-range of tasks to support Youth Services. Anyone interested in joining this fun group of future friends should speak to Meghan or Leah.
