nickerson homestead exteriorWe are kicking off Chatham History Month a little early this year with Gary Nickerson of the Nickerson Family Association, who will share his experience archeological dig on the grounds where the first English colonists made their home in 1664 alongside Native Americans in what was then known as Monomoit.  Gary will also discuss how the living history museum at the Caleb Nickerson Homestead has helped him to “dig” deeper into his roots as part of Chatham's founding family of English settlers. This is the first of many special events during June at historic sites, museums and organizations throughout town as part of Chatham History Month 2026, an annual event sponsored by Historic Chatham.  Registration is required for this in-person program at the Library on May 28 @ 11:00 am. Walk-ins welcome but subject to availability. (This is an adult program, but suitable for all who are curious.)
