In Cross of Snow, Nicholas Basbanes probes, the life, the times, the work, and the soul of quintessential Fireside Poet, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.  Longfellow was far and away the best-read American author of the nineteenth century, beloved by adults and children alike across all segments of society, his works translated into more than 30 foreign languages, with words and phrases that remain in common usage to this day.  Called “exhilarating” by the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Paul Muldoon, Cross of Snow was Named a best book of the year for 2020 by the Times Literary Supplement and Christian Science Monitor, and shared top honors for the Massachusetts Book Award in Nonfiction, given annually by the Massachusetts Center for the Book.  Registration is required for this Zoom program, scheduled for Tuesday, May 24 at 7:00 pm.  Books are available for purchase at Yellow Umbrella Books in Chatham.
